Now That’s Just Stupid: Weight, What? by Debra Taylor is currently on tour with Silver Dagger Book ToursThe tour stops here today for an excerpt and a giveaway. Please be sure to visit the other tour stops as well.

Description
The F-Word: A three letter word that carries the greatest impact to the deepest void inside the soul … Fat, there I said it. Just the word alone makes every hurt, pain, failure, or haunting memory rise to the surface, and food is the only thing that will quiet the storm. You don’t have a problem with food! You have problems, issues, behaviors, and your go-to food. There is a big difference!
Weight, What? is the third release in the Now That’s Just Stupid, Inc. book series. It’s a journey through real weight loss using regular, everyday foods, only this time you will solve the issues and keep the food. No one should tell you what to eat, what not to eat, or how much to eat. YOU know how to do that! What you don’t know is how to solve the reasons why you overeat. Healthy foods and exercise didn’t make you fat, and they won’t make you thin UNTIL you face the emotional issues underneath the weight.
This book will show you how to use your food to guide you toward your C.O.R.E. issues and take the steps to solve them.

Obesity
o·be·si·ty| /ōˈbēsədē/ noun
1.   a condition characterized by the excessive accumulation and storage of fat in the body
  1. a chronic, relapsing, multifactorial, neurobehavioral disease
My definitions:
1.   a sole sentence that enforces one to cater to societal beliefs that you are lazy with no willpower or motivation to achieve their level of attractiveness or health standards
  1. a public visual aid of every heartbreak, pain and broken piece of life that you were given or forced to consume
____________________
You are not your weight. Just the sound of the word fat brings an internal embarrassment of shame that pulls anger or humiliation to the surface instantaneously. Every time we hear that word, we often lash out at anything in our pathway or bury the enormous burden of self-loathing with more food. Either way, the cycle continues to the point that our familiar realization is a variety of honest assessments such as I don’t know what’s wrong. I can’t stop. No matter how many diets I have done, it’s inevitable that I will put it all the weight back on and then some.
My response is always: Are you done now? You see, I’ve been in your shoes too many times, and I will not let you stay defeated unless you choose to remain overweight. It is a choice, not a destiny. Weight,WHAT? is going to unfold all your baggage and solve it this time. You will experience every emotion imaginable before you reach your goal weight. It will be hard. You will want to run or worse yet, quit again. But if you stay, you will know who and what caused your obesity, {and it wasn’t food}, and the practical steps to break the addiction, of using food, to cope with a life you were not born to live. This is called “doing the work” and I, for one, know you are worth it!

Praise for the Book
“I’ve never actually set out to read a book about weight. I had a hard time at first relating to the book and I almost put it down. I’m glad I didn’t and have realized some things that I thought I didn’t allow to affect my life that is. I also know there are more books by Debra Taylor that will also be helpful and I’m looking forward to reading them. Her knowledge helps put things into perspective and gives you resources to help.” ~ Raychel, United Indie Book Blog

Write in the morning before your mind is filled with the daily distractions.
Write slowly at a speed that gives you time to think as you write.
Choose a writing utensil that is easy to write with and that you like to use.
Look back and read some of your previous entries and continue or refine some of your writings.
Use the things you learn about yourself from your journal to change your daily life.

Praise for the Book
“… this is a good-looking journal, written by a writer who cares about the happiness and well-being of her readers. The beauty of this book is the genuine enthusiasm and positive attitude emanating from the author. Her signature of caring, her profound belief in the potential of her readers, and the sense of dignity in her writing will certainly lead readers to personal success if they follow this attractive and well-laid- out journal for forty days.” ~ Surfs Up Writers’ Bookshelves

My Review
I received this book in return for an honest review.

By Lynda Dickson
The Mindset Accountability Journal is described as “a 40-day journey to becoming your truest self by achieving a Mindset of Gratitude”. You will be asked to commit to spending 30 minutes “every day for the next 40 days focusing on and developing your inner person” and, further, to “use the things you learn about yourself from your journal to change your daily life.”
This journal has a gorgeous cover, which is reason enough to buy it! Each day there is space to write down five things that you are grateful for, followed by daily encouragement, a reminder to read for thirty minutes, space to write one takeaway from your reading, an inspirational quote by a famous person, and space to write an action for mindset change. In addition, the author provides a little extra encouragement every 10 days and finishes with a list of suggested resources for your daily mindset and accountability reading.
There are a few minor editing errors, which are not really acceptable given the small amount of writing therein. The most glaring error is that, in the introduction, the author asks us to read for 15 minutes each day, while the journal itself asks us to read for at least 30 minutes each day.
Nevertheless, today is a great day to start the rest of your life. So, what are you waiting for?

About the Author
Allie Hudson
Allie Hudson grew up in LaGrange, Ohio, and attended Moody Bible Institute, studying education. In 1991, she married Larry Sellers, who passed away of a heart attack in May 2009. In 2010, she married Michael Hudson who passed away of cancer just three years later. In January 2012, Allie lost her corporate job of 20 years because of downsizing in the newspaper business. Throughout this five-year period of three major losses, the only way she survived was to focus on God and trust that He had a plan for her life. After struggling to maintain a daily consistent practice of growth and gratitude, she began a 40-day challenge to practice gratitude and personal growth. That journey taught her the need to help other people develop a daily practice of thankfulness and inspired her to share The Mindset Accountability Journal with the world.

Description
What makes this book awesome?
There's an evil queen, a demented father, some amateur boxing and a trailer park story. Even a silver fox makes an appearance. Why wouldn't that entice you?
If you are looking for something different from the rest of the books out there, something that might make you question your sanity then you will love this book.
Seriously! The comedic and sassy perspective will make you see things differently, and you may even find yourself laughing out loud. It's a good story and one that I truly believe needs to be told. Period.
It’s dark, raw and takes you to a door that keeps all my innermost secrets. I hope that the book makes you laugh, makes you cry, and inspires you to be the best version of yourself.

Excerpt
You see, my father was evil—seriously evil. During his relationship with my mother, he brutalized her and some of my siblings in ways that she won’t speak about to this day. He was often filled with rage and that rage showed in his physical violence. His brutality was never just saved for my mother. He once punched out my five-year-old step-brother; literally punched him in the face. I couldn’t even imagine what that would be like for a small child. Miss B hated him so much that her hatred poured into me from the time that I was just a toddler. She couldn’t stomach the sight of me for the simple reason that I was a part of him.
These aren’t my memories and most of which I know is fragmented, as no one wanted to talk about the man. What I know of him was learned in piecemeal over the years.
He was the kind of man who would rather see you dead than see you leave. I’ve seen several men like that while watching Law & Order. It’s shocking to know that things like that actually happened in my own family. My mom is such a great woman that the thought of her being hurt is a little hard to take at times. When my mother finally decided to get us all away from him, she had to wait until he went to work. Then, she packed up our things and left home. There was no warning; no threats of leaving him. She knew what he was like and she knew it was best to slip out without telling him.

Praise for the Book
"I thought the book was very inspiring and I found that I could really relate to her stories. I would recommend it to anyone." ~ Brandi Martel

My Review
I received this book in return for an honest review.

By Lynda Dickson
The author's story is written in 14 chapters or vignettes, in which she makes no apologies for who she is. She just wants to show us that the things that have happened to her in her life have made her the person she is. Above all, she wants to make us laugh. And that she does. She tackles such varied subjects as her humble beginnings growing up unsupervised in a trailer park, cruelty at the hands of a family member, her uncanny resemblance to the evil father she never met, how she became known as a cat thief, a rape near-miss, her first boyfriend and how he affected all of her future relationships, life in a small town, post-partum depression, parenting, the advantages of male over female friends, undergoing therapy, online dating, kickboxing, divorce, getting her pilot's license, friendships.
While the author has a great voice, the book is in need of an edit, with some awkwardly phrased sentences and incorrect word usage. She remains brutally honest throughout and, while her story is at times heartbreaking, she maintains a sense of humor. Even though she suffered terrible hardships as a child, her resilience is testimony to her strength. She became a writer, a pilot, a kickboxer, and a mother. Her account is even more remarkable given the fact that she describes herself as shy and says it's hard for her to open up. Underlying themes includes having confidence in your abilities and believing in yourself at times.
My favorite: "Look ... I Didn't Steal the Cat".
Heartbreaking, humorous, by always inspirational.
Warnings: coarse language, sexual references.

Why I Wrote this Book
When I first started writing You Taste Like Whiskey and Sunshine, I wasn’t even really sure where it was going. It took me years to put it together because I kept stopping, stalling mostly because the idea of baring my soul for all to see terrified me. Who wouldn’t be terrified, right? Talking about things that happen to us in life is not easy for anyone. So, I would start and then stop, let it sit for a few months and, honestly, there were times when I was just going to let it go. But something always drew me back in. There was a story there inside of me and the damn thing was determined to get out.
One of my lost loves once told me that I was "raw and real". He couldn’t have described me better. At times, I walk around like a vault, like nothing can stop me, while other times I walk around like an open wound. I love deeply, which means that there is a big chance that I’m going to get hurt badly.
So, the big question is, why this book, why now?
It’s simple. I have a story to tell. I’ve experienced a lot in my life and although I’m still relatively young, these experiences have helped define who I am today. I want to share my experiences now with others in the hopes that maybe someone will read my words and it will help them to feel less alone or even help brighten their day. People talk about their experiences for one reason because sometimes it feels damn good to get them out. It’s kind of like a verbal exorcism.
Although there are moments of tragedy and pain in my story, there are also some pretty good laughs. Mainly because I’m super weird and awesome, all rolled into one. So, my stories are definitely out there at times but trust me, if you crack open this book, you won’t regret it.

"Concrete Walls and Steel Bars" by P. D. White

EXCERPT and GIVEAWAY
Concrete Walls and Steel Bars:
The New Willie Lynch
by P. D. White

Concrete Walls and Steel Bars: The New Willie Lynch by P. D. White

Concrete Walls And Steel Bars: The New Willie Lynch is a poetry and self-help book by Mr. P. D. White. The author stops by today to share an excerpt from the book. You can also enter our exclusive giveaway for a chance to win one of two paperback copies.

Description
Concrete Walls And Steel Bars: The New Willie Lynch is the key to unlocking the chains that many mentally imprison many African Americans.
In 1712, a man named Willie Lynch gave a speech to slave owners telling them, "If you follow my instructions, you will have the negro under your control for the next 300 years." This mindset, infused in the philosophy he taught to slave owners - which was to beat, burn and scar slaves - has now influenced the trauma and mental illnesses affecting generations of African Americans today. Today we see many of his teachings in our African Americans on a day to day basis. Now not knowing why we feel this way, or react the way we do towards one another. Concrete Walls and Steel Bars: The New Willie Lynch is the key to unlocking the chains and release your mental and emotional freedoms that you desire.

Excerpt
This is what “Willie Lynch” has done to our communities: “brainwashed” them at the highest degree possible. But a large percentage of our own “folks” are also guilty of doing this to ourselves. As I sit back and listen to what our music has become today, I am convinced that society has become the music and the music has become our society. Music is the new messenger. Music is the new leader. Music is not only influential but it can be held responsible for a majority of the ignorance we see our communities drowned in today. You want to hear something funny? I, too, am a rap artist; “gangsta rap” at that. So I take full responsibility for the role I’ve played in destroying my own community and the minds of so many innocent youths. That’s why I’ve taken a stand to change the content of my music. The material that’s being put out today can be considered somewhat poisonous, with the exception of a few exceptional artists.
For example, take the sister, Nikki Minaj. And just to let you know Nikki, there’s no disrespect intended. But she has a large movement, a lot of followers and the majority of them are young enough to be first and second graders. Now when Nikki promotes a song about big butts and shaking your ass for dollars, we all know it’ll more than likely climb up the charts and come with an explicit video. But who do you think is sitting in front of the TV screen, mimicking word-for-word and doing all the moves as if they are on the Twister game board? Exactly. Our young girls; our daughters. And don’t get me wrong―shout out to Nikki for the real positive, motivational material that she does put out―but some of these kids aren’t fully developed mentally to the point where they can separate reality from entertainment. They hear “Barbie” and automatically register the term with the doll in their bedroom. We can’t possibly be that naïve and teach our young sisters to “suck dick, get ass shots, get plastic surgery,” or “get that nigga for all he got,” and not think they are going to just ignore it as entertainment.
It’s time that we as leaders and role models perform a self-assessment of what we do, what we say and what we feed into the minds of our youths. God has blessed a lot of entertainers with the talent to speak and deliver our stories in rare form, but we have to remember we have great influence in the same communities which support us and what we promote, and more than likely they will too.
