"Humpfree: The Humpless Camel" by Julia Dweck

Humpfree: The Humpless Camel
by Julia Dweck

Humpfree: The Humpless Camel is Julia Dweck's latest release. You can read my review below. You can also check out some of Julia's other picture books: Blucy (read my blog post) and Mary had a Sleepy Sheep (read my blog post).

Humpfree's back is as flat as a pancake and he's not taking it lying down. He's off on a wild search looking for his humps, but there are lots of bumps along the way. What would you do if you were a humpless, bumpless camel?
Readers will enjoy the humor and rhyme of this adventure, based on scientists’ true discovery of a new flat back camel species in East Africa. Young explorers will be fascinated by Mrs. Dweck's true and amazing fun facts about camels to extend the learning. It all adds up to one edutaining adventure for young readers.

Now Humpfree Camel had no humps.
His back was free of any lumps.
While others had one bump or two,
Just where were Humpfree's? No one knew.

Book Trailer

Humpfree is different. Unlike the other camels, he has no humps. So Humpfree sets off to find some, a task that proves more difficult than he thought.
This is a lovely story that teaches children that it's okay to be different and that, in fact, this is what makes someone special. The book includes full-page illustrations by Young-Min Yoon. The drawings are bright, clear, and colorful, the perfect accompaniment to this cheerful rhyming story told in Julia's inimitable style. Complete with fun camel facts, this is another wonderful offering from Julia and Xist Publishing.
