Excerpt
A siren sounds at first light.
Work starts at the construction site.
Mighty machines get to work,
building roads and moving dirt.
Lifting beams and digging deep,
backing up ... beep, beep, beep.
As they work they sing along
to a happy construction song ...

My Review

By Lynda Dickson
The crew is hard at work at the construction site. Meet the dump truck, the excavator, the crane, the bulldozer, and the cement truck as they go about their work, happily singing their construction song.
Sing along with them! You can download the accompanying song via a link in the book and sing along to the tune of "Round the Mulberry Bush". Singing is a great way to get your little ones to learn to read by remembering the words. Julie Sneeden's illustrations make the vehicles come alive, and the pop-up text allows you to enlarge the text size to make it easier to read on small devices.
This book will appeal especially to little boys, who might like to play along with their toy trucks as you read to them. You might even catch them singing the construction song while they play with their trucks long after reading this book.

From the Author
I am from South Africa and I live in a city called Pretoria. I am a Chemical Engineer by day and a children’s book writer by night. I am married to a wonderful man and we have a beautiful two year old daughter called Allegra. I love writing stories for my daughter, who is a constant inspiration.
I have always loved reading. My childhood was filled with books and you would often find me crouched the corner of my room devouring the pages of my favourite book. I lived for Tuesday mornings as this would bring with it the excitement of a trip to the local library for story hour and the opportunity to take home a new book. I was the local librarian’s worst nightmare. I would arrive a few minutes early to check that she had not mistakenly chosen a book that had already been read in story hour.
I was a very bossy three year old with an insatiable appetite for books! This has not really changed much in the last twenty seven years. Dr. Seuss was my absolute favorite and to say that my copy of One Fish, Two Fish, Red Fish, Blue Fish was well read would be an understatement.
When it comes to writing, my daughter is my biggest inspiration. I love seeing her face light up with excitement when we sit down to read a book before bedtime. My daughter was fascinated by giraffes after we went on a safari trip in late 2012. This planted the seed for my picture book called How Andrew Got His Spots which is a rhyming adaptation of a story I originally wrote in the third grade. My daughter has since grown into a healthy two year old with a passion for aircraft which was the inspiration for writing Goodnight, Sleep Tight: What a Wonderful Flight.
I am sure that there are many parents in the world (myself included), who are quite decidedly sick and tired of reading the same favourite picture book night after night. I believe that the words of Oscar Wilde best describe how children should feel about picture books when he said, "If one cannot enjoy reading a book over and over again, there is no use in reading it at all."
Happy Reading!

The Buzz
"I highly recommend this adorable tale to children who don't want to go to sleep at night because they are afraid the Boogeyman will get them! They just might discover that this isn't true. " ~ 5 Star Review, Amy G., Amazon
"My little one and I thoroughly enjoyed the story (he made me read it twice as soon as I took it out of the package and I had to distract him with Monsters University to get away to write a review), but the real treat to me was stashed in the cover blurb hidden away in the back of the book. It's written by Davon Washington and his son, Chase. Davon wanted to help young Chase understand how much work and effort went into providing the nice things he had, so he let Chase make this a project in which they could collaborate and Chase could get an idea of the value of hard work. To me, that's the best part of the story! " ~ 5 Star Review, Breeni B., Amazon
"I loved this book! The illustrations were such a big pull for me. It almost felt like watching a tv show in the sense that you are brought into the world of Jack the Boogey instead of trying to imagine the scariest non-monster possible. I do think that this is a great read for Young Readers because of the conflict and resolution. I enjoyed that Jack showed vulnerability (being upset over the children's misunderstanding that he was actually a helpful GOOD monster) and that it was OK to show emotion. This is a great lesson for all young readers. Sometimes when they see life lessons happening via forms of entertainment (books, movies, tv, et al) vs. just hearing about it from their parents, it sinks in a bit more." ~ 5 Star Review, LaToya, Amazon

About the Authors
Davon Washington is an entertainment executive who was born and raised in Brooklyn, New York. Davon has made a career out of helping people bring their artistic dreams to fruition. The same people who more often than not do very little to enhance the tender minds of the culture that supports them. Creative thinking isn't a skill that you learn as an adult. It starts with that same imagination that we let run wild after we've mastered harder tasks like walking, talking and using the bathroom ourselves. It's Davon's mission to build a nation of creative thinkers one book at a time.
Davon and his six-year old son, Chase collaborated to bring Jack the Boogey Is My Real Name to life. This is their first book.

Book Reading

Excerpts

My Review
Andrew the giraffe doesn't fit in. Instead of having spots like the rest of the giraffes, he is "as white as white could be." He doesn't have any spots! Andrew goes for a walk and meets the spotted ladybug, the spotted leopard, and the spotted owl. They all got their spots in different ways, but they assure Andrew that he will get his spots one day, too.
This is a lovely rhyming picture book, beautifully illustrated by Julie Sneeden. The story encourages children to be patient and that things will work out in the end. I enjoyed the rhyming text and I especially loved the imaginative ways in which the different animals got their spots. You'll never guess how Andrew finally gets his!
A delight!
