Description
Nothing in Layla and Max’s world will ever be the same.
Since Max left, and joined his father in the Shadow Realm, everything in Layla’s life has changed. The Demon Gods threaten to destroy the Otherworld, and an inconceivable darkness has awakened - a darkness that wants control of Layla’s will. It also wants Max … dead. Not only must Layla face the true fire simmering inside her, but fight the one she loves most.
And this time, with her friends and family left behind, she’s completely on her own.
Leaving Layla nearly destroyed Max, but it was his only choice. Now, he must play the part - stay in control of his end goal, his actions, and the poison coursing through his veins, clouding his thoughts, and turning him into what he fears most, a Demon God. But even with his Oghams fighting the toxins, his control is slipping. Living in the Fomore castle with his Vampyre Fae ex-girlfriend isn’t making it any easier to stay sane, and waiting to face off against Layla is taking its toll.
In the final installment of the Fire Born Novels trilogy, the legendary Battle will be fought, and Layla and Max stand to lose everything. How far will they go to save each other and protect the ones they love? Even they don’t know the answer.
No one can win.
From the ashes of old,
They shall rise.
The last of the Ancients,
Foe and Ally.
The Legend lies in wait,
And bides its time.
Until at last the day comes,
For the children born of fire.
They shall rise.
The last of the Ancients,
Foe and Ally.
The Legend lies in wait,
And bides its time.
Until at last the day comes,
For the children born of fire.

Excerpt
The world is a still and quiet place when you're dead.
The grind of stone on stone touches my dormant ears, and soft candlelight peeks through the slightest of crevices above me, warming my cold face. Bones creaking, my body shifts gently to the side, twisting through darkness, as the rich aroma of melted wax wafts over me. The sweet tinge of vanilla candles. There must be hundreds just beyond my tomb. I wonder who put them there, how they stay lit.
The spiciness of gardenia petals flits through my resting place, too, sharp and intoxicating as ever. They are perfectly pristine flowers, I remember, yet so delicate - they bruise too easily.
The soft, protective embrace of feathered wings catches my weakened sight through the widening rift overhead, protecting me in shimmering cream and gold plumage. I don't know how long I've been here, buried underneath this heavy slab in the frigid cold of The City of The Dead, but I know MacCoinnich is near me. I feel his heat emanate through the stone, the warmth of his undying love, even in death, fills me with hope in the dark. I remember us. I remember him. All the time in the world could not make me forget. All the time in the world could not make me forget what has been taken from us - or who has taken it.
Praise for the Book
"And so Layla and Max's story ends ... (Just give me a moment. *Sniff*) What a ride this book provided. It grabbed hold onto my heart and took me through emotions that I didn't know a book could hold the power to provide its reader. [...] This was an amazing journey and I do recommend this to everyone." ~ Chenique Erasmus
"Really enjoyed this one guys! [...] This book was action packed, it didn’t ooze romance to an annoying degree like book two, but it was romantic in a cute way, not irritatingly. We get answers to all our questions too! I was literally so engaged that i read it in one afternoon when I sound have been doing assignments! But i just wanted to know what would happen! SO as an overall, it was an entirely satisfying end to this series [...] I think you’ll like it a lot." ~ Emmeline (The Book Herald)
"This book is a wonderful conclusion to a series that has, quite honestly, gotten better with every installment. [...] True is everything a book 3 should be. A solid ending to a series that has taken you on an emotional roller coaster with more than one gut punches along the way for good measure ... " ~ Alexander Nader
"I know I have said this in my first two reviews of this series that Laney McMann is one of my favourite authors ever since I have started the Fire Born trilogy ... After reading her first book I was like why isn't she famous! People need to READ her books! I'm totally loving this trilogy! True is the last book and I am darn sad because this trilogy was so special to me!" ~ Haniya Qamar
Interview With the Author
Today we interview Laney McMann, author of The Fire Born Novels.
How long have you been writing, Laney?
I’ve been writing since I was nine years old. I started out with poems, moved to short stories, and then to novels.
Did you always aspire to be an author?
Yeah, I always did. When I was in college I considered getting a degree in English to realize that dream but I pictured being a journalist and nothing about that appealed to me. I thought only "authors" wrote novels, so that dream stayed tucked away for quite a long time.
Who is your favorite character in the Fire Born Novels trilogy?
Hm … that’s hard. I love Max, and I adore Justice. They are probably my favorites.
Are you working on any new projects you'd like to share with us?
True will be the last book in the Fire Born trilogy, although I am planning to write the prequel. I have a YA urban fantasy novel coming out in the Fall titled Crystallum. It’s the first book in the Primordial Principles series.
Plotter or Pantser?
Such a Pantser. So much. I have notes, and brainstorms, but at heart I’m a true write-what-comes-at-me writer.
What books are you currently reading, if any?
I’m reading Merrick by Anne Rice right now.
Twitter or Facebook?
Um … probably Facebook. I’m on both, and neither gets a whole lot of time, but Facebook gets more than Twitter.
Fantasy or Paranormal?
Both. 100% both. They are my loves.
Any tips you'd like to give aspiring writers hoping to be published one day?
I know everyone hears this, but write. Read. Write some more. Read more. Writing really does have to be a passion. It’s hard work. You have to want to do this. Really want it.
When you're not writing, you are ... ?
Running. Playing with my awesome lab and my Persian kitten. Being a mom. Reading a lot.
Tea or Coffee?
TEA. Loves the tea.
Summer or Winter?
Summer, summer, summer. I’m not a cold person.
Early bird or Night Owl?
Mid-day? :) I used to be a night owl. I’ve never been a morning person.
Favorite time to write?
I write mid-morning after I run. It keeps the blood in my brain and the stress levels down. When I’m on a deadline, though and crunch-time is looming, I’ve been known to write at all hours and have written for ten hours straight.
From the Author
I write young adult dark urban fantasy mixed with a spike of paranormal romance, a touch of history, and a dash of mythology. I'm a dreamer, an over thinker, and a myths and legends believer. Nothing moves me more than writing fantastical stories. And reading them.
I am the author of: The Fire Born Novels - Tied, Torn, and True; The Primordial Principles - Crystallum, book 1, releases Fall of 2015; and Astral (An Asylum Short Story) which also releases in the Fall of 2015.
