Home Wrecker is the first book in a three-part series that follows the main character, Brooklyn, throughout her childhood, adult life and then what seems like an "endless" journey towards redemption.

Book Trailer

Excerpt
I was physically attacked by a woman who didn’t even know me. Yes, my boyfriend was her former husband, but she tried to ruin me. While she was not my worst nemesis, I have had plenty of opposition from others. Yet she caused me plenty of grief during a time when I didn’t have the energy for anymore negativity. Throughout my life, I’ve had many disappointments, survived many losses and had more than my share of sorrow. I had my expectations crushed repeatedly, yet I was still optimistic and believed there were good things to come.
Even when I felt there should be more than this, somehow I was always able to find the positive in any negative situation. I believed life could be good and we could do well. That said, I still believed people should be accountable for their actions; not that I was a saint or anything even close to that. The bottom line was, I believed in payback. Ruth, the soon to be ex-wife of my boyfriend, deserved to be punished for her actions. When she came after me with her racial slurs and wads of spit, I realized just how uncivilized a person could be.
I always thought my life would amount to more than this. I lived my life striving to be the best person possible. I tried to live up to my parents’ expectations, and my own. I’ve never been very goal oriented, but I’ve always been proud that I have a good heart. I did things I never thought I would do and I had to accept my long list of shortcomings. Life was not always fair, so I had to roll with the punches. As I grew older, I learned that every human was flawed. In my case, I wouldn’t have predicted any of it. I was raised to believe good things happen to good people and that everything always worked out at the end of the day.

Review
Perlin has crafted a tale that chronicles the journey for true love, through uncharted waters and ends up in her own heart. The storyline reveals, little by slow, how Brooklyn's relationships throughout her life have conspired to bring her of this moment, each moment, in her view of her relationships and consideration of her choices. The second part of the book discloses just how brave and heart-full this woman is. She will inspire you and leave you craving for even more.

Interview With the Author
Hi Brenda, thanks for joining me today to discuss your book Home Wrecker I (Home Wrecker Chronicles).

Which writers have influenced you the most?
So many writers have influenced me but I would have to say John Emil Augustine who wrote Love Seen From Hell. We worked together on the first half of Home Wrecker. He was able to tell me when we felt there needed to be more and when I needed to move on. He really helped me from a readers point of view. He also is a very good writer which helped a ton!

What age group do you recommend your book for?
I would say anyone old enough to know better!!! I would not want my teenager to read it but it has been read and reviewed by some younger readers. I would NOT recommend that!

What sparked the idea for this book?
I was really looking for something to do with my time. I really needed a job but instead I started writing this story that I thought would be about the wedding business and what a shady business I thought it was. Instead this story turned into something COMPLETELY different.

Which comes first? The character's story or the idea for the novel?
For me it was the idea of the novel. Since Home Wrecker is based on my life I knew the characters pretty darn well.

What was the hardest part to write in this book?
I think writing about loss is the hardest part. I am very emotional and it always gets to me.

How to you hope this book affects its readers?
I hope readers will see that you can’t always judge a book by its cover. Not everything is as it seems. I hope it will open up people mind and be more compassionate.

How long did it take you to write this book?
It has been a work in progress for many years. I started writing Home Wrecker when I was thirty and getting married. I put the story down after the wedding and did not pick it back up for over fifteen years later when I was going through a divorce. It was then that I had a real story to tell.

What is your writing routine?
I like to be comfortable and have water and sucking candies by my side. Sometimes I write on the computer while I am on my stationary bike. I call it multi-tasking!

How did you get your book published?
I believe it was really a miracle. I was first published in 2012 by a publishing company that were shameful in every way possible. Lucky for me I was able to walk away from my contract. Fate brought me to Master Koda Select Publishing. It has been a beautiful partnership.

What advice do you have for someone who would like to become a published writer?
Don’t seek a vanity publisher. If they want money for ANYTHING...I would run not walk away!!!! You are better off going the independent route.

What do you like to do when you're not writing?
I love to laugh and have fun. I like being around friends and my boyfriend. There is nothing better than being silly with people you love!

What does your family think of your writing?
Most of them have said the were proud of me. Some were surprised that I had it in me to write such a story and a few were not happy at all.

Please tell us a bit about your childhood.
I had a good childhood in the San Fernando Valley, in Los Angeles California. I had two loving parents and two sisters. We traveled and I lived a good life. Things changed after my mom died when I was just twenty-one. That was a pivotal point in my life. That was when the direction of my life really changed and I had to grow up really fast!

Did you enjoy school?
I was a bit of a outcast and never really fit into one peer group or another. I can’t really say I enjoyed school very much because I was a bit of a loner.

Did you like reading when you were a child?
I started reading when I was a young teen when Judy Blume wrote Are You There God? It's Me, Margaret. After that I started writing my own stories. I used to like to go to coffee shops and write on paper napkins for hours until my hand would get tired or my thoughts dissipated.

Did your childhood experiences influence your writing?
I would think so. Even as a young child I wrote about feeling like an outsider. My preferred theme has not changed so much over the years.

What was your favorite book as a child?
Anything by Judy Blume. Her books just resonated with me. I knew what it was like to be that outcast and to not be understood.

Do you hear from your readers much? What kinds of things do they say?
I think most people are really stunned by my story. They can’t believe I have lived through some of the things that I have. Many people really connect with the main character Brooklyn even if their story is different. I think the story really gets into the human existence and that is why people have been so touched by this story. It does make you think about your own life.

What can we look forward to from you in the future?
I am so pleased that you asked. Thank you! Home Wrecker is a trilogy and I have already written the two other books. Book two is Home Wrecker: The Brooklyn Chronicles which is a continuation of book one, and the third is Home Wrecker: The Bo Chronicles which is actually my favorite. It's also a coming of age story but this time it is not my story but it is a good one and it continues where book two left off. There a lot of surprises in the next two books.

Thanks for joining me today, Brenda. It's been a pleasure talking to you. I wish you the best of luck for the rest of your book tour.
